How to use the CD in the classroom

The Echoes of Ireland interactive CD- Rom combines an engaging historical skills development tool, designed to support the Key Stage 2 Local History requirements, with some broader reaching reflective material, exploring the Irish connections to Liverpool.

Tone

The independent learning experience is targeted at 10-11 year olds but the material is suitable for use in a teacher led environment right across the key stage 2 age spectrum.

Key features

The CD based resource has been designed to:

  • Express the impact of the Irish on Liverpool, past and present.

  • Help make the subject of the Irish Famine accessible and relevant to a contemporary audience aged 7 to 11.

  • Provide a clear path for learners of different ages and abilities to challenge themselves and develop their critical and analytical skills.

  • Provide an accurate, detailed but dramatic presentation of the salient facts and supporting information, suitable for use as a teaching and learning resource in fulfilment of the local history component of the Key Stage 2 history curriculum.

Learners are taken on a journey through the major events and issues that drove the migration of large proportions of the Irish population, from Ireland to Liverpool , in the mid 1800's. Echoes of Ireland is a multimedia-driven learning experience that challenges assumptions and promotes reflection about the historical, cultural and economic impact of the migrants on the development and success of the city of Liverpool .

It is assumed that the typical learning experience will be one where Teachers frame and focus the study to match the needs of their own classes, but where the core reference material will be provided by the CD.
